Desk Yoga
I have been putting in long hours at my desk with a new content-organization project and update on my website.
The amount of recordings, handouts, etc. from recent livestream courses had become overwhelming for me and, I assume, for many others. In an attempt to lessen the frustrations of downloading, storing, and locating course materials, I have been migrating past courses to my new site on Teachable. Teachable will serve as a portal for students to access the recordings and handouts from the courses they take with me without lots of different emails, dealing with dropbox, or even having to store the materials for themselves. Everyone can stream directly from the site or easily download to their own devices, as they wish. And, for those folks signed up for more than one course, they will have a My Courses tab where all of their materials will be in one place.
I think it is going to be a really good thing.
I have spent days migrating the content, organizing my various class lists, and getting a sense of how to manage the back end of the new platform. I have all four of the Asana Junkies Livestream programs moved, the past and current Level 1/2 Class Series, the past and current Level 2/3 Class Series, and the Back Bends Course. Also, I moved the Teaching the Raw Beginner course, the Bringing Inspiration to Life course and made a place for the upcoming Asana Junkies, Level 1/2 and 2/3 Classes to be when the time comes. Still on my agenda are the recent and upcoming Livestream Intensives and remaining Continuing Education Courses.
So, little by little, I will keep working on it and little by little, I will finish it.
So far, I am pleased with the functionality and the look and hope it will encourage people to keep taking classes and using the recordings to support their practice at home.
An interesting aspect of this content migration project is remembering back to April when I started these Livestream courses thinking that Livestream classes would be a short-term situation. Back then, I thought that work would resume as per usual by the fall. Well, here we are in the fall, with no end in sight and all of my offerings online for the foreseeable future.
On the whole, I am getting my feet underneath me again with the new format— I upgraded my filming set-up with a huge TV screen so I can see everyone in the gallery and offer suggestions, which makes the experience more interactive and fun. At least, I think it makes class more fun. I am sure some people really like the new approach while others would prefer to be left alone! Of course, I do not think I am giving heavy-handed “help” but, well, as we all know, sometimes help feels helpful and sometimes, well— not so much.
At any rate, switching my 75-minute classes to a peak pose format has also helped my focus and delivery. I laughed with friend the other day that while I did teach 75-minute classes for a decade, it has been close to a decade since I taught short-form classes. Lately I have been enjoying the regularity of the offering and the stability and structure the weekly classes offer.
So, onward we go.
I don’t have anything too profound to add today. My brain feels a bit numb from the “dragging and dropping” but I did want to get back in the swing of writing on my blog. I went deep into a personal writing project and stopped writing here and then Kelly and I have been dealing with listing our house, which has been time-consuming and stressful. All that to say, my energies have been directed in places other than blog updates.
All right, Have a few things to do before another Zoom meeting.
More soon.
